This so good! Reminds me of Ira Sukrungruang's Mirror Essay in Atticus Review: https://atticusreview.org/a-mirror-essay/

I hope you get to read the book soon, it is phenomenal.

Olga, thank you for that link! I love his essay. Which book of his is it you recommend? I looked on Amazon & they all look good. Thanks for reading & your kind words.

I meant Tracy Chevalier's Girl With a Pearl Earring, but Ira is a great writer too! :-)

I thought this story was great, Charlotte, and hope you submitted it somewhere. I love ekphrastic writing, and have tried my hand at it a couple of times. Once, I wrote this “triad-thing,” and, like you, discovered how labor intensive it was to bring to the page. I really wish I knew more layout tricks. Your piece looks professionally published. Terrific! Deb

Thanks, Deb. I did submit it to 3 litmags and they all passed on it so I decided to post it here. I have a pretty good number of readers and think I might actually have more reads here than at some litmags. Anyway, it’s low key and more fun this way, for me, right now. I wish I knew more layout tricks, too!

Yes, super frustrating! The intermingling worked well, I noticed how much prior to reading the comments.

I love this, Char! I applaud your patience- I want to chuck my laptop across the room just imagining which methods you must have tried. But it turned about beautifully!

Thanks, Brandy! I do remember putting the text in two columns but the stories would intermingle - so frustrating! I’m sure someone who’s more experienced could do this in a snap.
