Going to take a listen to this. Commiseration is therapeutic- to a point. But how are we going to live? You are doing a great job by my estimation. Thank you for sharing words, and flowers, and Chrissy Hynde for goodness sake! 🩷
Totally hip to what you’re saying here, Charlotte. Re: books — I read Strout’s Lucy By the Sea and loved it … and the Pretenders, supreme! Saw them a couple years ago in Grand Rapids — Chrissie Hynde (sp.?) was amazing. She opened for Stevie Nicks, whom I initially went to see. But CH rocked!
Deb, I’m so jealous! Chrissie and Stevie in one sitting? Brilliant! My first Strout book was My Name is Lucy Barton which made a huge impression on me & I thought about it literally for ages. Then I read each successive book as it came out, every single one is wonderful. So, with The Burgess Boys, I went back to her earlier books. This one was great because it delved into two of the reoccurring characters in the books I’d already read. I have 4 of her earlier books to go (including the Olive Ketteridge ones which I own) and I look forward to completing the entire catalogue of this author.
Based on your enthusiastic recommendation, I guess I’d better start reading more Strout! When I read Lucy By the Sea, I couldn’t put it down; her writing is wonderful. And yes, Chrissie & Stevie, wonderful too. I’d seen Stevie several times, so maybe Chrissie’s performance wowed me because it was a “first time.” Still, she rocked!
