Oh, I LOVE that book so much, as I do Eileen! (You would definitely be friends!) And, yes, I used to do that with my mom's answering machine--and my first husband's. I even had his office send me the tape of his office voicemail recording.
Whew--sounds really moving. Yet, I can understand why you delayed starting it. Of course, there's never a better time to dive into a read like that. But for books that must be read, we just must. After my mom died from cancer, one of my friends looked out for me for a while, cautioning me to not read that book and not to watch that movie. But after some time those similar stories can be comforting. We develop a kinship with those who've suffered the same kind of loss. Thanks for the lovely review!
