I found this page in an old journal I was looking through this morning. Such a wise and insightful quote and one we should all remember when judging the actions or words of others. I’ve been thinking about judgement lately as it relates to social media. We all pass judgement, me included, I’m not saying I’m a saint. Only, when I see the same players passing judgement on SM over and over and actively black-balling people without solid facts to back up their claims, it pisses me off. When literary journals take down a writer’s work because of pressure by gangs of people on SM, I wonder where was the due diligence in researching the claims? Where is the transparency? After a recent take down of work by a popular litmag responding to calls by a group of writers, I searched the litmag’s tweets for an explanation of their research process, for transparency but found nothing. Maybe I missed it, maybe an editor posted something on their personal account, but it should be on the litmag account. As a reader and a writer, this bothers me a lot and my respect for this litmag is gone. Until it’s publicly addressed I won’t be reading it and certainly won’t submit to it. (I’m sure I won’t be missed, lol.) I have seen a responsible response to similar allegations on SM. I have seen a litmag perform it’s due diligence in researching claims of racism, bigotry, finding the claims unfounded in fact, and reporting the same to it’s readers, then standing behind it’s decision to keep the work online. That is how it’s done. That is being fair and transparent. Kudos to
