"I don’t think it was only because I worked in fashion that I loved clothes at that time. It was also because I finally could afford to buy what I wanted and buy higher end clothes than I usually wore." Same here. Until I started earning my own $, I was beholden to my mother who had a much different fashion sense from me. When I got an office job in my mid-20s, I went crazy, in part because I was expected to dress nice, but also because I loved fashion and had a serious shoe fetish. And before my eyes went all squirrely, I changed my eyeglass frames as often as I changed my shoes. Now? I was just thinking today that I might have to try that trick of turning all my hangers around backward to learn what I really do and don't wear over the course of a year. One item that I'll never get rid of: my lightweight green bibbed overalls. I wear them practically every day.

My mom always had a better sense of style than I did. She loved clothes, accessories , and jewelry and was more in style in her older years than I’ve been. I went through a handbag and shoe fetish in the early aughts but almost all of them have been given away now. Except my dark purple bag with the gold studs which I’ll keep forever.

I had a hard time transitioning from work to casual clothes! The althleisure look wasn’t for me. “Only” is a minimalist brand I found on ASOS - good sales on tee shirt dresses which I live in. Best “dress” shorts -Anne Taylor and J.Crew, hands down. My closet recently pulled away from the wall - in the middle of the night lol - so I went purge crazy. My work world shoes (well, honestly every pair of shoes I own) and my purses, I kept, along with my high school halter-style prom dress. :) You might be able to find your trench on Etsy, I found a vintage London Fog with orange piping marked down to $25. The shoe brand Ponto- a casual Oxford - I live in those as well - so comfortable. I lace them like a sneaker, but the shoes ship laced for professional wear. So many colors! Great post, Charlotte!

I’ll have to check out the Only brand - I think I still have an ASOS account. I kept my halter style prom dress for years and years but finally got rid of it and a Gunne Sax midi dress in a purge.

Yeah, I regret getting rid of that dress. It was so Stevie Nicks.
