It’s 3 o’clock in the morning. I am up tending to my old dog who howls from downstairs in the middle of the night when he is feeling anxious and wanting me. I keep a few books on the coffee table and I pick one up, M Train by Patti Smith, and read a few pages. A passage reminds me of the time years ago when my husband and I bought a pot of bamboo.
Dear Charlotte, it's weeks later but I wanted to tell you I enjoyed reading your story, "The Dog and the Bamboo." I enjoyed the photos linked to your story, as well.
Beautiful essay, Charlotte. We never know what will happen when we act on our impulses, but it’s lovely to reflect on how much love has come into our lives because of them.
Wow, Charlotte, that IS some bamboo! And it’s gorgeous — like this post/essay. Reading it, I was thinking: strange, today when I looked at my bookcase, I happened to see my Patti Smith books, and secondly, reading this piece has taught me a lot about how to write about Charlie (which I intend to do soon). I love the way you intertwined getting Buddy and getting the bamboo — brilliant. And, of course, I love the message. You and your husband were so wise to take Buddy in, and those last words are still ringing in my ears, haunting my soul, saying, Yes, yes, yes.

Two perfect “Bs”, both beautiful.
Beautiful, Charlotte. A reminder that this life has its own energy. I love how you go with it.

This is so beautiful, Charlotte! I can really hear that bamboo whispering.
